Shirley Catton AKA “Curly Shirley” is a proud graduate of the Yeshivah of Flatbush and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College along with a certification in Art Education from Parsons School of Design.
From a young age, she was inspired by her father Joseph D. Beyda A”H to participate in community service, especially at Sephardic Bikur Holim. His passion for helping others and giving of his time continues to inspire her. In addition, she has volunteered at Camp Simcha, Our Place & The Morris I. Franco Cancer Center.
Recognizing that she wanted to work creatively with children, Shirley co-founded a unique art program called “The Art Shack.” Her students learned about famous artists and created artwork inspired by them. After ten years in the art field, she transitioned into the fitness industry. Currently, Shirley absolutely loves teaching her “High On Life Experience” classes, with a focus on mental health, nature, happiness, and gratitude.
Following the events of October 7th, 2023, she was searching for a proactive way to contribute. As a result, in May 2024 she teamed up with The SCA to lead a women’s solidarity trip to Israel, called “Chai on Life.” This trip was unique as it was focused on music, movement, and healing. The group continues their outreach, further strengthening their connection to Israel and its people.
Shirley is happily married to Sam with three wonderful children and an adorable Berne doodle.
